Power

Like many Nissan vehicles, the Armada keeps things simple for buyers with a single engine option. The 5.6-liter motor is a V8 that produces 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. You also get an increasingly rare truck-like feature, a limited-slip rear differential. As a result, the Nissan Armada offers enhanced power and control, whether you opt for the rear- or four-wheel drivetrain. The top trailering package can tow up to 8,500 pounds around Elizabethtown. With or without a trailer attached, the Armada will excel when you hit the gas pedal.

The fuel economy is respectable for a downright truck-like SUV, hitting an EPA-estimated 14 mpg city and 19 mpg highway in RWD. Driving in 4WD, you can shave about one mpg off both numbers. The 26-gallon fuel tank offers plenty of range for long trips to Mt. Olive. The RWD version uses a seven-speed automatic transmission, while the 4WD employs an eight-speed automatic.

Exterior

While the frame and power of the Armada are decidedly old-school, the Armada's exterior evokes the most exciting features of the top luxury SUVs on the market. It features a slightly rounded front end and a boxy profile. The backward-C design of the headlamps is trendy and modern, and the large grille features chrome. It also includes a big and well-protected air dam and bumper with an aggressive approach angle for off-road driving. Black and chrome trim features, large aluminum alloy wheels, and low-profile roof rails complete the Nissan SUV's luxury look. The Armada has 9.2 inches of ground clearance, too.

Interior

If the sharp appearance of the exterior entices you, stepping inside the new Armada will leave you stunned. Especially in the top trim, the Armada features wood-grain accents, silver highlights, and top-tier stitching throughout the cabin. Your choices of seating materials include leatherette, leather, and premium leather in black charcoal or almond colors.

The Armada is a passenger-focused full-size SUV. The interior volume is 170 cubic feet, and the seats go three rows deep. Even the rear passengers will have plenty of legroom. You can buy the Armada in a seven- or eight-seat configuration.

Technology

All versions of the Armada have a 12.3-inch touchscreen display. The infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and USB connectivity. Satellite radio is standard, and the system also connects to real-time traffic data. Powered and heated front seating is standard. The top audio system for the Armada is a Bose system with 13 speakers and a powered subwoofer.

Safety

Nissan includes intelligent cruise control, forward collision mitigation, and an around-view monitor. Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection is standard, too. The same goes for rear cross-traffic alerts and blind-spot warnings. Four-wheel ABS with disc brakes is also standard.
