Winter is full of options and excitement in the Clinton and Fayetteville areas. There are opportunities to be outside and adventurous, as well as opportunities to attend events indoors.
While beautiful all year round, the Cape Fear Botanical Garden puts on a spectacular display of Holiday Lights in the Garden. This event runs from 5:30–9pm each day of December and features a magical glowing wonderland with thousands of lights illuminating the gardens. Even after the Holiday Lights in the Garden, the botanical gardens can be visited to provide a reprieve from the outside winter weather.
Arnette Park is a 100-acre park with many amenities. There are outdoor facilities for sports and activities, as well as areas supporting wildlife. During December, the park decorates for Christmas in the Park. Visitors can take a stroll on the paved walking trail and experience the sights and sounds of the holiday season.
The Crown Coliseum is a five-venue complex with over 105,000 square feet that can be used for many different purposes and events. There is a theater, an arena for ice hockey, an expo center, and an elegant ball room. This winter, there are many shows to see, such as the Nutcracker Ballet and Disney on Ice. You can also watch the Fayetteville FireAntz Ice Hockey Team in action.
If shopping is more your year-round activity, be sure to check out The Livery and the Cotton Exchange. These two stores are premier antique and vintage shopping in the downtown Haymont Historic District.
If sledding and being outside this winter is more your style, be sure to check out Rowan Park in Fayetteville. This park has hills particularly useful for public sledding.
Clinton Parks and Recreation is has an outdoor skating rink at Savage Field. There are special events throughout the winter season, including an ice skating block party held February 5th and February 19th.
