Starting with the 2018 model year, Nissan has announced that seven of its most popular models will all come standard with Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB). These models include the Rogue, Rogue Sport, Altima, LEAF, Pathfinder, Murano, Maxima, and Sentra (minus manual transmission and NISMO models). It will also come standard on select Armada models.
With the addition of all of these models, it will more than double the number of AEB-equipped Nissans currently available in the 2017 model year. Nissan expects there will be more than 1 million Nissan models with standard AEB in 2018.
AEB is part of Nissan’s suite of Intelligent Safety Shield Technologies. It helps to reduce the impact of a front-end collision, or potentially avoid one altogether. The technology uses radars to monitor the distance between the driver’s vehicle and the one ahead. When a potential collision is detected, it will give the driver audible and visual warnings. If the driver does not respond, the system will automatically apply the brakes.
"This increased AEB availability is part of our ongoing commitment to help reduce fatalities while realizing our comprehensive vision of Nissan Intelligent Mobility," said Michael Bunce, Vice President of Product Planning at Nissan North America, Inc.
Here at Nissan of Clinton, we are excited by this announcement. 2018 models will begin arriving by the end of the year.
